FileMaker Users Group

Last night saw the re-invention of the Bristol FileMaker Users Group as the richly titled 'FileMaker Users Group (South West)'. The Bristol event has been run for years by Nick Stockbridge of Transmedia, but due to Nick's increasing need to travel to London, a new organiser was needed.

The mantle of organisation has been donned by FileMaker developer Martin Bridges in conjunction with igeek.

In order to open the group up to FileMaker developers from Devon and beyond, the event involved a change of venue to The Windmill Club, just off junction 22 of the M5.

The newly reborn user group attendees included in-house developers, freelancers and development & consultancy firms. There was a broad range of technical knowledge from (this author's) practically zero, up to individuals with over 20 years' experience in developing FileMaker Pro.

In an informal, chatty environment, users shared their experiences, tips and wrinkles. The bar was open (tragically not free) and food was available from the Club's kitchen. Many thanks to the Windmill Club for providing their excellent facilities!

The group's discussions covered lots of subjects including, amongst others, the viability of vertical solutions using FileMaker, WebDirect, partitioning tables to allow multi user systems, SQL and FoxPro, virtual lists and cartesian joins.

The group meets on the second Monday of every other month 18:00-21:00, so if you want to attend, please feel free to turn up and introduce yourself. Or to talk to the organiser, please contact Martin on 07940 514351 or by email.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
